Battlefield 3

Hoping this will be popular at the next breach. Downloaded Origin to find they are charging £40 for it which is a joke.
Amazon are only charging £29.91 with free delivery, and it's the limited edition.

Any excuse to avoid Origin aswell

There's no avoiding it, doesn't matter where you buy it from, Origin is compulsory. I'll be giving BF3 a miss for that exact reason.

I do not like Origin's inactivity policy, of course both Origin and Steam can wipe your account as and when they see fit as unfortunately they reserve the right to do this in their T&C's :/

If bad company 2 is the last battlefield game with sensible drm (steam) then that's how it is!

I also don't like that their EULA gives them access the every piece of hardware and software on your PC and the option to sell/give this information to third parties without notification or consent.

With legalese like that in their T&Cs they can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

Every company does it now a day's legal or not just they wont admit to it till they get caught out. plus them having a look at your hardware you go onto any web site they get your IP what's the difference?

There's quite a difference between them knowing my IP and being able to freely root through my hard drive and disclose whatever they find there to whoever they like.

If you have a static IP even that's pretty personal. You can be traced and followed with just that.

Well even ignoring the fact there's still a lot of grey area in the EULA for them to do as they please with your personal info I have no interest in doing business with a company that pulls this kind of tomfoolery to begin with. EA just have a fundamental attitude problem toward their customers, they see us as resources to be used to increase profits rather than consumers with rights.

I mean do you really think they would have even made this token gesture of change if people hadn't kicked up a stink about it? I could never trust these people with any of my info.

Unfortunately, I agree with Socks.

That's the type of thing that just never should have been in place to begin with. The fact they even tried it makes them untrustworthy in my book.

Not that I needed another reason to not use their software. I've had enough experiences with their download services. And their history of stable Battlefield releases is non existant.

I'm with Hexxy on this one, i just really want to play the game. It sucks that they had all the stuff in their T&Cs but they've fixed it now, it's no more invasive than facebook.

edit: Socks, i know that Origin is compulsary to play the game, i meant that i didn't want to deal with buying it from their store :)

I guess I'm fortunate in that I don't really care about the battlefield games so EA have no stranglehold on me. It sucks missing out on ME3 a bit but frankly I don't think it's worth dealing with origin.

EDIT: Its a lot more invasive than facebook guys, though I don't think being only as terrible as some of the other bad companies out there is any sort of defense.

Facebook is on the way out, remember what the internet was like before Facebook? back to communities (like this one!) yo!

I don't really like how purchasing a game, really only buys you a license to use it. I feel like I own the game, at least I own the right to play the game.

The beta is already underway for those with keys.

And it's already broken down completely. The EA backend (known as Plasma) has been completely overwhelmed and it threw in the towel sometime last night.

I'm not sure if it's recovered yet. But this is not the first time this has happened with Plasma. And nor will it be the last. Bad Company 2 servers were plagued by problems with Plasma going down. It just isnt't strong enough to cope with the number of people who want to use it.
