This is going to be our biggest event yet. With this in mind there are a number of things that we must remind you about. We're usually pretty slack with a lot of our rules but this time we are going to have to be quite a bit stricter.
These are to try to make sure everybody has the best experience possible. It's important that everyone keeps these in mind.
1) Extra appliances MUST be approved and paid for. Things such as second monitors, personal coolers, anything above and beyond your computer you MUST check with us and if necessary, pay the extra £5 fee . In the event that too many people want to take appliances that will overload our power circuits, preference will be given to those who ask us first.
2) Double beds are forbidden for single sleepers. There simply is not the space to allow single sleepers to have double beds. IF you are a single sleeper on a double mattress, and IF we run out of space, you will be asked to sleep directly on the floor to make room for others.
3) Sleeping space is allocated on a first come first served basis. Anyone obstructing the aisles or fire escapes WILL be moved. With this in mind, it's a good idea to get your sleeping space secured early.
4) Sleeping in the main hall, although permitted, is discouraged. Any noise complaints coming from people trying to sleep in the main hall will fall on deaf ears. With this in mind we HIGHLY encourage you to sleep in the dedicated sleeping area, behind the stage and accessible from the kitchen. Noise complaints coming from this area will be taken seriously.
5) If you are a light sleeper - TAKE EARPLUGS.
6) The weather is looking like it's going to be a combination of scorchers and pourers. If you suffer from Hay Fever it's likely the oil-seed rape around the hall will make your life very uncomfortable. Make sure you take your medication.
7) There is VERY LIMITED fridge space. Fridge space for guests is limited to storage for medication, milk and sandwich meat.
Ready meals, drinks and beer are forbidden. Any of these things found in the fridge taking up space reserved for permitted items will be left on the work surface.
8) The cooking facilities at the hall are limited to the kettle and the microwave. The hob and oven are not allowed. This is a condition of our hire put on us by the hall. Please keep this in mind when bringing food. It would be a shame to let food go to waste because you can't cook it.
9) Cleanliness is important. We will have our recycling buckets out as always. Please do what you can to dispose of your recycling i the correct buckets before we have to come around and clear up "Tower o Empties".
10) On this note, anyone found leaving dishes in the sink will be lined up and shot. Then made to clean the dishes and the blood spatter from the bullet wound.
On a serious note, PLEASE do your own dishes. It was quite good at the last LAN the only thing we had to do was to dry a few that had been left. Thank you to everyone for doing this, please keep it up.
11) The internet connection is for everyone. It's purpose is to let games and game essential applications that require an internet connection run.
THAT IS IT.
It is NOT for Skype. It is NOT for Facebook. It is NOT for iPlayer.
This time, despite the higher number of people, we still have the same internet connection and the same bandwidth limit. And if the bandwidth limit is hit, the net connection gets switched off for everybody.
We have a brand new firewall and monitoring system to keep an eye on exactly how much bandwidth every person is using. So make sure any applications that use a lot of bandwidth remain closed.
Steam is slightly different. We should have a local cache of any patches which you should be able to download at full network speeds directly in Steam. But this is only for PATCHES. Anyone found downloading full games without asking our permission will receive the same tar and feather treatment as always.
Anyone found using excessive bandwidth will be automatically booted off the network until bandwidth use decreases. And we WILL be watching.
