Just a note for those of you with AMD 5XXX/6XXX cards -- AMD released an updated driver for use with RAGE to supposedly "improve performance." I tried the game out with this patch at the weekend and while I didn't notice any slow-downs, there were still "popping" textures.
Anyway, the point of this is to let you know that the updated AMD drivers are known to break Minecraft and cause it to fail to load. It's possible to fix it by rolling back your drivers, but in general I'd advise you just avoid the AMD driver in the first place.
