Yup it is interesting. But it's only halfway there.

Black Ops had dedicated servers. But they monopolized their servers to only one server provider. IW need to do several things to at least stand a chance of the game finding favour with me.

1) Do not restrict it under any circumstances to certain GSP's. Everybody should be able to host servers.
2) Fully release all the dedicated server files to allow LAN Parties to host dedicated servers.
3) No micro payments.
4) No subscriptions.
5) The game should NOT be a laggy, buggy, untested piece of shit upon release and should work for the vast majority of users, first time, out of the box.

Nowaday's that's asking a lot. But back in the day we didn't need to even ask for this kinda stuff. It was just given.

I'm so confident that they won't do this, that I am prepared to make a wager. If they fulfill 4/5 of my criteria, I may consider buying the game. If they fulfill all my criteria I'l not only buy the game but I will eat my laptop. The full thing. Battery, screen, charger and all.

And this comment on RPS made me laugh.

“Big announcement”? Dedicated servers are a basic thing. It’s like “announcing” that the next game they make will have gameplay! Or sound! Or will support monitors!

Unlikely.

Although the information appears to show GSP's will be allowed to host servers, there's no way on earth that all of my other criteria will be fulfilled. It's already pretty much confirmed that 4) is happening and do you really think a game rushed out in a year will not be a laggy, buggy unplayable pile of crap ? Especially given the history of CoD releases?

Doubt it.
