Version 2.1 of Artemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator was released today. It includes a bunch of tweaks and bug fixes, but has several gameplay changes too. I'll outline the most notable changes here.

Space Station Changes
Until now, Artemis has tasked us with protecting 4 defenceless space stations. This patch has changed this in a variety of ways.
  • There are now several types of space stations. Some stations will now be armed and capable of defending themselves. The station type will also alter the munitions that the station can create, and the time it takes them to manufacture. There are 5 types of friendly bases including the ones we're familiar with, which are now known as "Deep Space Bases".
  • The number of space stations for each mission is now randomized. The number of stations will change, but the overall productivity of all the stations will be the same. e.g. You may only have one or two military stations that produce munitions very quickly, or many small science bases that are slow to manufacture weapons.
  • Enemy bases. Each faction/race has it's own type of base, all of which are armed and capable of defending themselves.
New Game Modes
  • Deep Strike. Somewhat of a reversal of the standard Invasion game mode, in this mode only the enemies will have bases. The player-controlled ships have to destroy all of the bases to win. This will definitely put a huge focus on conserving ammo and making shots count.
  • Border War. The player and enemy teams are divided by a border (shown on your map). Ships must not enter or cross the border until war is declared. Sounds like a match of even teams, but with time to prepare and setup. I'm guessing that war is declared once one team tries to cross the border, so it'll be a balance between setting up for battle and striking before the opposition has had time to prepare.
  • Peacetime. No information provided. These are actual missions though, not just an enemy-free mode to let you explore. My guess is carrying out non-combat missions, such as escorting friendly ships or retrieving anomalies, and maybe fighting one or two enemies if necessary.
New Station
  • Data Screen - this screen can display the three main views available to the captain, and switches between them when space is pressed. Sounds like a luxury for those with an extra screen to spare, if the captain wanted to constantly see one of the three screens in addition to their usual display. This station is also apparently quite buggy and prone to crashing at the moment.
If you own the game through Steam, it will automatically update. If you own the standalone version, you can find the patch here: http://www.artemis.eochu.com/?page_id=35
