If you were having a line each - then no, no load balancing would be required however it would make things more interesting when it comes to sharing files and printers with Greg. Not impossible though :)

New BT line is around £150 iirc

Would i really need this load balancing device if it's 2 seperate lines? One line would just be used by me and one by greg, wouldn't be looking to combine them or anything.

If you were fine with being on seperate networks etc then no you wouldn't. However it would mean that there would be 0 network connectivity between you & greg - so you wouldn't have access to any media shared by greg or anything like that (assuming that you do that already XD)

Never thought about the media sharing... is there a way to solve this? I have 2 ethernet ports, would it be possible to be connected to both networks but have only one connected to the internet?

I think £150 would definitely be worth it though

you could have a separate router, and just swap to it whenever you need to file share.

There are other, more efficient ways but someone else will have to tell you bout them :p

There is yes, and I would be able to step you through it, it requires having a static IP on the media network, and fiddling around in the command prompt with static routes, but it can be done :) (It's the exact same way that I use two routers at once in both ethernet sockets on my pc - since I have one to connect to remote networks, I've told my pc to use that router for addresses beginning with 10.10.x.x, and everything else goes out to the internet)
