We have had our post event meeting. And we have decided to try to be more open about what we're doing in between events, what we're doing with your feedback and what we're planning for future events.
With this in mind, there are a few things to address.
From Good Bad Ugly, there was a common theme from everyone of not enough organised scheduled games. This is something we can easily address. For BreachLAN 39 we will organise six big games for everyone to take part in. These will be timetabled and published on the website before the LAN, and should be detailed again on your desks at the LAN. We will choose these games based on popular vote but will definitely mix things up so we have a few FPS, racing, indie, we'll make sure everyone is covered.
The other thing that came up was the music request system being much better, but could perhaps do with something to limit requests to a few per hour. No problemo, working on this one too. We should have something going on time for BreachLAN 39.
The result of the vote about the August dates has come in too, it was pretty close, but the result was in favour of switching the August dates to Friday to Monday. The difference was only one vote, so we removed the staff vote from the equation and the result remained the same. So for next year (BreachLAN 42) the August LAN will be Friday to Monday.
Something else we've noticed is that when people were arriving they often couldn't remember where they were sat. So we've fixed this by giving each row a letter and each seat a number. When you arrive we should have everyone's details ready of exactly where you're sat. You can't see this change (yet) but it'll be pushed out the next time our test site goes live.
Finally, we're looking at upgrading our back end hardware. This is a major upgrade we're looking at. Almost a total overhaul of our entire network and server infrastructure. The steam cache has been working so well so we're considering expanding it up to include uPlay, Origin, Windows Updates etc. And if we're doing that, might as well update the server while we're at it to ensure that isn't the bottleneck. And if we're doing that, we should really get gigabit to the desks too for super speed. This is a MAJOR upgrade so not likely to be in place for the next event, but keep an eye out for it .
That's all for now. Hope to see you at the next event.
Thanks, Greg.
