Who thinks they'll be taking one of these to a LAN in a couple of years?

Nice find there socks :) Not sure if this is aimed at the more casual gamer or not? I guess it totally depends on the specs of the machine and the cost. I'd rather have a PC at most price points, especially considering how difficult it is to use a keyboard and mouse on the couch :)

Depending on price point I can see it being much easier to transport to LAN than the full tower.

But it depends on price, performance, compatibility. Lot of things to consider.

Not touching this with a 10ft barge pole.

"No news on the power of the graphics cards, but it is integrated. I suspect it’s not the best. The lowest of those specs is expected to be around $1100, and the details are worryingly vague."

I'm keeping an eye out on it. The thing to note is that the valve box is not going to be the exact same specs as the pistons. If Valve have hardware guys working on the project too (and they do) you can be sure that there will be some level of performance there.

how about you at least wait till details are announced before making a opinion based on one sentence, there is no details as they haven't announced ANYTHING DEFINITE yet. i doubt it will even come out this year and there's a lot of talk of Nvidia possibly making the graphics card since at CES they were showing a lot of the big screen mode in their own presentation
ALL we know is that they partnered up with the guys at Xi3 and that it will have a 1Tb hard drive with modular RAM and so forth (GPU, processor etc.)
and it is expected to be around the $1000 Mark (£620)
so how about waiting for actual details before getting all bent out of shape

Actually from the information I've read so far it's an integrated graphics i.e. non interchangable - I'd only revise my opinion if that's changed to a modular form making it upgradable.

In anycase it would still be cheaper to build a small form factor pc to work in the same capacity.

it is modular
also the GPU is on one of the I/O boards rather than the processor board is it is interchangeable you will be able to swap out all the different parts
(explaining this part separately as they dont actually show that in the vid)

modular-ism seems like an amazing idea! if you could buy the base and upgrade as necessary!

Isn't there something that steam is already available on.....something where you can do this already......can't think what it's called.

I agree, the main attraction of this is that it could possibly give you access to steam games on a PC like machine that has the primary advantage of a console, i.e. standardised design. If it does turn out to be modular then what's the difference between it and a PC? If this turns out to be a reasonably priced modestly specced machine that is capable of playing a few of our LAN staples in a small, easily transportable case that can easily be hauled around than colour me interested. I'm also very interested in Newells comments that this machine is going to have a LAN focus, with possibly as many as 8 displays hooked up to one box!

Obviously it's early days yet, far too early to say "YES I'M BUYING ONE!!!!1!!11!" or "I'D RATHER STARE AT THE SUN WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS!!!1!!111!!", but for now... colour me cautiously interested, I will be keeping an eye on this.

If it turns out to be reasonably priced and capable of running all my LAN games then I'l be having one to save me the hassle of taking my full machine. You are right though. It is too early.
