Good:
  • Lots of attendees
  • Starting earlier on Thursday, meant we could actually do group events that evening instead of just waiting for people to show up.
Bad:
  • Bit lonely in the far, far corner.
  • Almost 5 hours of Grassy Knoll.
Ugly:
  • How I felt after almost 5 hours of Grassy Knoll
Red vs. Blue Feedback:
Overall Red vs. Blue was a pretty good addition to the LAN. It was cool to have an event last the whole LAN that I actually took part in (don't care for King of the LAN) and getting the team spirit going was pretty awesome.

However, it kinda sucked that every game was one-sided. We were fortunate that there were games that both teams could dominate in, but it still wasn't great. CS:GO and TF2 are usually my favourite games of the LAN, and getting annihilated in them was a big disappointment - not just because I'd hoped to do better, but because I didn't have any fun in my favourite games. Due to the random drawings of teams, it's possible that half the attendees of a future RvB LAN spend the entire event getting their arses kicked, which would definitely be off-putting for the future. Playing a non-RvB round of TF2 with random teams afterwards was much better, and I think should happen for every group game if possible.

I would like to see Red vs. Blue return, but I'm very wary of how badly it could go. It would also be nice to emphasise the friendly competition, rather than the kinda-bitter rivalry it seemed to be - there was lots of trash talking (last thing you want after a crushing defeat), and at times a noticeable divide between the teams.

THE GOOD:

Having such a laugh when casting.
The atmosphere throughout the weekend being so friendly.
Beating Kev on time at F1 2011.
GTA4, utter mayhem.
Meeting all you guys.

THE BAD:

Kev with his top off.
Kev divebombing on his airmatress at 8am on Saturday morning.
Kev's alarm loudly going off on Friday morning at 7am.
Left4Dead2 : bored me to tears.

THE UGLY:

Having to work on Friday morning.
Uneven teams leading to massive disadvantages.
No big Trackmania game.
Sunday afternoon when it came around.

Overall:

Loved it, made some excellent new friends this weekend. RvB was an excellent theme to have over the weekend, could be tweaked in further events by making the team matches smaller to ensure even teams i.e. 5v5 or something and have plenty of matches. I think a lot of the people who dropped did so because there was not really an incentive to play when having your arse so heavily kicked.

Being a control freak by nature the only other suggestions I have are getting a clear list of games pre-lan that will definately be played. It was really disappointing to miss out on a few big matches that looked seriously fun (I'm looking at you Chivalry).

Other than that everything else was pretty much spot on, would there be much call for running a webserver during LAN that has all the tourney fixtures, times, announcements and results as a go to point for all the other players?

Just booked my tickets for the next one, absolutely cannot wait to get back up there - thanks to all the staff for organising a brilliant weekend.

Red Vs Blue - As a showpiece I think this was GREAT. I think we need to re-examine the way the teams are picked. It was rather unfortunate that every game seemed to be insanely one sided. With a bit more work hopefully we can prevent this re-occurring. But the concept itself seems to be solid.

Thursday start I liked a lot. We're going to have to see if we can do this again.

Casting station - Turned out just as well as I'd hoped. Once we get the final few parts it should be even better.

Racing Sim - Thanks Kev

Event Wallpapers - Thanks Niko

State of the kitchen. Thanks to everyone for helping us keep it clean. This makes our lives easier, and keeps the kitchen open for future events.

General atmosphere. There was something different this time that made the entire atmosphere feel much more alive. I've no idea what it was, but it was there alright.

New faces - So glad to see so many new faces. We'd love to see you back.

Finally got to play a lot of games at LAN. I'm going to be working on my SCII and I'l be winning next time Knotty.

Bad -

UT2k4 Instagib - Sorry, we genuinely did not expect it to last this long. We looked at the teams and expected Red team to stomp the shit out of it and for it to be over in 30 minutes. Slight miscalculation.

Adam failing to record the SCII final - Accidentally streaming it to twitch instead of the local recording server. (To be fair, this was an easy mistake to make, and a good part is probably my fault for setting up both options)

Red team attitude during Chivalry. "If we quit now and end the game then we wont give them easy points". Blue team did not pull this stunt when the winning streak was the other way around.

Ugly -

That "assault the brewery" ut level that was awesome fun(looking forward to watching the casted version)
Laughing like a mad man at the naked gun movie
Only one net problem the entire lan and that lasted all of 5 mins
Meeting more new people

The bad:
The games we got steamrolled in I didnt have much fun
Starcraft being included in the RvB IMHO theres too few people who properly play it for RvB that its very easy for all the players to end up on one team and just because it runs for the entire event it does not have to include EVERYTHING in it (nothing against the game or the tourney)
Getting annoyed at tf2

The ugly:
Instagib....
Uo61cqq.png

Red team.....
Hexxy got me in a show that im now watching all the way through (damn you hexxy)
UT2k4 Instagib - Sorry, we genuinely did not expect it to last this long. We looked at the teams and expected Red team to stomp the shit out of it and for it to be over in 30 minutes. Slight miscalculation.
