EvE LAN / Breachlan Warm Up

As some of you may know, I am a big player of EvE Online. I think its great.

It is however, epicly difficult to get into. Without at least a few hours handholding it is likely you will have information overload and your mind shutdown, or you will just fall prey to one of the many scams within the universe which will put you off immediately.

So, I am offering to hold a day of EvE handholding for a group of a few people. I'l take you through the interface, weapons, ship fitting, useful software, aswell as pointing out several things that you MUST be wary of.

Scamming is not only perfectly allowed by the admins, it is occasionally actively encouraged. The same thing goes for griefing. Without guidance you can easily fall prey to the players who specialise in this.

Location : My House - Postcode AB39 3XW
Date/Time : Thu 26th Feb - Computers setup from 11:30am - Trial accounts created ready to start playing when the server comes online at midday.

Followed by a day of Breachlan Warm Up on Friday 27th, heading out to Breachlan just after 5pm stopping for a take away along the way.

(EvE is the only MMO where there is only one server. It goes down for maintenance every single day between 11am and 12Noon)

If you are interested, post up here sometime before next Thursday. Just so I know what furniture and network cables I need to sort out.

Thanks.

I quite liked my time in Eve back when it first started up, played for about 4 years or something. I did run a trial last year and it was fun to play again. Pity I'm working on thursday or I might have taken you up on the offer, although I am off on the friday.

If you fancy coming up early for Breachlan Warm Up thats cool.

Not much point in running EvE Handholding on the Friday though as we will only have a few hours. Time would be better spent prepping for Breachlan, making sure software is up to date, relearning maps etc etc.

No point in giving pointers. You could read any EvE 101 and get the same info.

I do though have a spare computer that you can use.

I would suggest NOT starting your 14 day free trial until the handholding day. Because otherwise you will have the same problem as 90% of others who use the trial account. Information Overload, poor choice of character setup, wasting money on skills, ships and fittings that you eitehr cant use or dont need, or even just falling victims to a scam.

You can use my spare computer if you like. It runs eve very comfortably (not like 3fps)

Take it from me. Bad idea.

It works fine at first. But due to the way patches are deployed and the way steam works, it is preferable to have EvE as a NON Steam install.

I do suppose though it doesnt stop you taking advantage of the 21 day trial then using a non Steam install from there.

gemini, what's your name on Eve? I'm Molokor Santorum and Rebvyn. Pirates both, although Molokor is a prober/tackler whereas Reb is more straight up DPS.

I have Seona Effie. General character who is largely deep 0.0 based. But I have not engaged in piracy so I still have a good Security rating. I also have Toku Dai, again, largely based in 0.0. His primary objective is to assist Seona. Thus, he is training for transport ships to haul ore away from jetcan mining, but he also has some serious E-War capabilities should I ever need to slow someone down.

A common result of the trial.

The tutorial process focuses far too much on stuff that either makes no difference or stuff you should be able to figure out for yourself. Hence why im offering the day handholding so I can provide you with a new, better tutorial, a small stash of ISK, perhaps a better frigate or two and some good skillbooks to get you going.

i understand, combat and travel is simple, but when you get to the menus it gets a bit crowded and deep. it still looks like alot of fun

The best piece of advice I can give is, Concorde can not be trusted to protect your ass. Dont assume because you are in 0.5 or higher that your ass is safe from harm.

There are players who specialise in 0.5 and up combat. Said players are ruthlessly efficient and completely merciless when it comes to blowing your hard earned ships into the next universe.

If someone steals some of your stuff, they will start flashing bright red on your overview to alert you to the fact that they have committed a crime against you, and your destruction of their ship would go unhindered by Concorde. However, people who do this are completely uninterested in the value of the (quite frankly) garbage fittings / ore that new players find. They dont steal from you for the value of the stuff. They steal from you so you attack them, which then gives them the right to defend themselves, and destroy your ship before you have time to fire your second or third shots.

It is called can flipping. It is completely mercyless and serves no real purpose other than for the luls of causing grief to new players. Occasionally can flippers will be able to take down much bigger ships and when this happens they will often have a salvaging ship scrambled to steal what they can from your wreck.

And in the above scenario, Concorde WILL NOT intervene.

That is just one example of how other players can screw you over. Completely legitimately, and just for the fun of it.

EvE is dangerous. Dont trust those who you can not punch in the real world.

Swift, are you interested in coming out for the afternoons play. If you have figured out the gameplay and are starting to get into it I have some L3 agents in space which should provide you with a good source of cash.

If we're able to get online at the LAN and some folks want a hand doing missions, I've got a new character -- Minmatar who has just grabbed her first Destroyer which is brilliant for running level 1 missions.
