I'm a techy too and I tried Windows 7 on a laptop first to see how it was. Within a week I was using it as my main OS. It is what Vista should have been. Uses less resources. UAC is less intrusive. The new taskbar, I find superb.

Personally i would get yourself on the windows 7 beta and get the 64 bit version.
You have a 32bit OS that will not use 100% of your RAM.
Also I am, and have been for the past few months now, runnign windows 7 64. I have had no problems with it.
Amigas were fantastic (I still own 3 to this day). Spectrums were as well (I have one or two of them as well).
And Dave, it was the same with me (Even if I am a lot older than you :p) I remember coding a pong game on a BBC Micro :)

Why the hate for Windows 2k? Remember if it wasn't for 2k you wouldn't have XP. (Admitedly if you didn't have NT you wouldn't have 2K) Before 2K there was a pile of shit (except 98SE which was reasonable)
